Did Someone Say Mother’s Day Again? Well, like I said in March, I’m not trying to keep up! It’s another Mother’s Day so let’s dive in.

Some people say this is the American one, but it’s being celebrated here in The Netherlands and in so many other places, judging from the ads I see on TV and social media. So you see, I don’t have time to calculate. Any opportunity to celebrate mums is an opportunity I’m going to grab.

I don’t know about you, your mums, sisters, friends and wives; but I’ve curated a list of some things I personally find quite fantastic. When I talk about being pampered or having any kind of splurge, these are the kinds of items I’m talking about. And if the women in your life are lovely, sweet, tasteful, quality babes like I am (yes, I totally went there), then the gift guide below is just what you need to make them feel the Mother’s Day love this year.

And I know you know this, but it’s worth mentioning; if your mum is no longer here, or perhaps you’re not a mum yourself, and maybe these celebrations leave you feeling some type of way. Maybe opening this post made your heart feel heavy. Well I believe that absolutely nothing excludes you from making this day about you; your memories, your journey and your life. You deserve to be spoiled, and nothing says you shouldn’t do it yourself! Take a minute to appreciate, love and honour yourself this weekend!

So here’s Mae’s Mother’s Day Gift Guide - We’re talking 3 out of 5 Love Languages here.

Words of Affirmation:

Spend some time telling her how amazing she is. Seriously, don’t just say the words and leave it there. Dig in. Flesh them out. Give her actual examples of times when she made a real impact in your life. She just might not have even noticed it was a big deal then. If staring in her eyes and saying this words makes you feel shy or intimidated, then write a note, a letter, an epistle. Be generous with the compliments. Use all the adjectives. Say the same thing in different words. Make her a card, or type it out. She’s not in the same city? Send a text message, a voice note, a pigeon with a message in a bottle.

Spend some time to think about what you want to say and be intentional about how and when you say it. But just say it.

Receiving Gifts

Oh well, I don’t need to say too much here. This one speaks for itself. So, like I said, fantastic person that she is (like me), she will love one of these gifts depending on which way she leans:

For the Classy Hostess who doesn’t like fanfare and works with clean lines, these items are a dream. A personalised cutting board for that homey kitchen feel, brushed steel cutlery set, a simple and earthy 16pc dinnerware set, that elegant bar trolley (I am deeply in love) and the clean Nespresso Lattissima (I have this one in grey and when I tell you she’s a beauty, just believe me! If it wasn’t unreasonable to have the same coffee machine in two colours, I’d totally convince someone to get me this for Mother’s Day!)

For the luxury fashionista who deserves to be splurged on this weekend, these are instant winners! I’ve got a couple on my own wish list for a self-splurge day which I can feel coming up pretty soon. We’ve got casual flip flops, a wallet, a belt-crossbody-ish bag, a classy Burberry bag, a suitcase and some chic cat eye sunglasses! Seriously! I need a break from typing to appreciate!

For the fitness & self-care queen. She just wants to be pampered, have her home infused with lovely scents, exfoliate, workout and wind down in comfy lounge wear. She is I, I am she. So here are some ideas - running shoes, a fun and comfy Mama Tee that she will relax in on slow days at home, or show off underneath a chic jacket; some candles, skin products to cleanse and exfoliate; and a styling iron for when she needs to go out and slay. Here you go…

and finally… Acts of Service:

Is there a better way to say Happy Mother’s Day than with breakfast in bed? No there isn’t, so first of all, here’s a yummy healthy smoothie recipe for our lady on Sunday morning; and a fruity and spicy cocktail to go with your Sunday takeout lunch or dinner. It even has a no-alcohol option. Don’t say I haven’t done anything for you.

I don’t know about you, but we’re into dance parties in this house; and since I’ve started sharing jams with you, here you go! Smooth groovy jam for the weekend!

have an amazing weekend, and let me know how you get on, in the comments or via instagram!
