Avocado Chili Aioli

I’m actually actively holding myself back, because it’s an open secret that I can talk for a really long time about avocados. So this time, I’m going to try.

But really, what’s better than eating an avocado? I think it’s eating an avocado alongside other yummy food like plantains, potatoes, carrots, crisps, crackers, even a salad! Now, if we take it further (which I am very okay with doing because, avocados), imagine not just eating an avocado but eating an avocado dip.

If we’re being honest, I do find an avocado anything absolutely yummy. But an avocado dip just does it for me. For once, the avocado is not the side attraction or the extra ingredient to add to make the smoothie thick or make the salad richer. No, It’s the main act! The base of this oh so yummy dip.

Okay, so now imagine enriching the avocado flavour with the tanginess of lemon, the sharpness of chilli and then dulling it slightly with something sweet that is sure to make even avocado-hater going back to dip some more.

Good. Now, imagine no more! read on, get your ingredients ready and in 5 minutes (literally 5 minutes!!!), you can have some of this goodness!

Whew! The self-control I just deployed to keep this post short is commendable. I might just reward myself with an avo sandwich tonight!

Prep Time: 5 mins

Cook/ Bake Time: NIL - seriously, no cooking!

Ingredients:

  • 2 ripe avocados

  • 5-6 Tbsp applesauce (or 1 mashed banana)

  • 3-4 cloves garlic, minced or grated

  • 2 Tbsp lemon (or lime) juice

  • 1/4 tsp dried chilli flakes

  • 1/2 tsp salt, (plus more to taste)

  • 1 Tbsp fresh minced rosemary or basil (optional) plus whole leaves for garnish

Instructions:

  1. Add ripe avocados to a small blender. Top with all the other ingredients.

  2. Blend until well combined and smooth. Taste to adjust flavor as needed, balancing out the acidity of the lemon, the saltiness and the sweetness from the applesauce to your own taste.

  3. Refrigerate and use within 24-48 hours. Perfect with plantains, roasted potatoes, french or sweet potato fries, crisps, carrots and other veggies, and more!

Tip: Try to prepare as close to serving and consumption as possible, as this dish it loses its vibrant color as it oxidizes
